Barry Derickson enters his second year as head coach.
During his time, he has helped gain multiple conference accolades for his players. He has guided the team to break three different school records.
Last year, Derickson lead the lobos to their best finish in conference (4-4) since 2016 which resulted in the interim tag being removed.
He was listed in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s 40 under 40 coaches list.
Derickson comes over from Valparaiso University, where he served as tight ends coach. He helped Valparaiso to its best winning percentage since 2003 and tied for its best since 1999. The Crusaders were the Pioneer Football League runner-ups, the programs highest finish in league standings since winning the PFL Championship in 2003.
Before Valpo, Derickson served as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Three offensive lineman earned all-conference accolades under Derickson. He also helped the team to a conference championship and the distinction of number one offense in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Derickson served as the defensive line coach at Wisconsin Stevens Point and also filled the roles of travel and fundraising coordinator along with strength and conditioning coordinator.
He served as a quality control analyst at Eastern Kentucky University.
Derickson has head coaching experience during his time at Oconto Falls High School in Wisconsin. He helped eight players achieve all-conference honors in just two years. Derickson rebuilt the team dynamic and culture during his time guiding the program.
He is not unfamiliar with the American Southwest Conference, having spent time as co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach at Howard Payne University. While at HPU, the Yellow Jackets set a conference record for single-game total offense and ranked among the top 25 nationally in fewest sacks allowed. He guided five linemen to all-conference recognition.
